This past October, thirteen people from Bread of Compassion journeyed to a small village in Peru. Limatambo, located high in the Andes Mountains, was the target area for the organization's most recent humanitarian outreach.
Team members worked long before the trip, gathering donations of medical supplies and clothing to bring to the needy people of Limatambo. Once there, the team hosted a temporary dental clinic for the indigenous people, who are the descendants of the ancient Inca civilization. People traveled from all over the mountainous region to receive free dental care and medications during our time there.
In total, over 100 people received dental treatment. This included over 100 tooth extractions and over 500 doses of antibiotics and pain reliever were dispensed. Many children attended the clinic with their parents or to be seen themselves, and while they waited for care, were treated to entertainment and dental hygiene lessons by our CIC team. The team also visited a local orphanage where toothbrushes were donated and dental hygiene lessons were given. Our team was treated with such love and respect by the local leaders and people. A local dentist even unexpectedly joined our team to help meet the overwhelming need.
